for Biological Diversity, Biodiversity is the variety
of life we see around us everyday - trees, flowers, insects,
mammals, birds and fish. It also means you and me!
Biodiversity also includes the habitats or places where plants
and animals live. Everything from hedges to woodlands, from
small streams to the sea, from your back garden to farmers'
field, all of these habitats provide a place to live for the
many plant and animal species that can be found in County
Fingal. Why is Biodiversity Important?
Although we may not readily appreciate it, biodiversity provides
us with many of the essentials that sustain our lives - our
oxygen, water, food, clothing and places to relax in.
The value of biodiversity extends from the spiritual benefits
to be gained from contact with nature in your garden or local
park, to the economic potential of wild species for new sources
of food or medicines.
It is important that we protect the wealth of wildlife and
habitats in Fingal because we are depended on these for our
survival and well-being.
